Pros
*Self-employment (if this is your preference) although the company cleverly avoid having to employ their sales force (and having to provide compulsory benefits/pay NI contributions) by splitting the course materials and telephone back-up service so you are actually working for two separate organisations. *Flexible evening and weekend work - you can choose your availability (although they require a minimum). *Enjoyable if you like visiting and talking with families (although you have to revisit and deliver the course materials yourself!!!). *Leads come via schools distributing letters to pupils (although many schools refuse to do so and the NUT/many parents aren't happy about this practice as it appears to be endorsement of a private company).
Cons
*You are required to learn a sales script designed to play on parents fear of their children's fear of failure in GCSE's. *Poor quality leads (you are often seeing families who can least afford it). *Often travelling long distance (at your own expense). *Commission only earnings (no basic or expenses paid). *Can take two months to get paid commission (and then they pay by sending you a cheque!!!). *High cancellation rate (your commission gets clawed back). *If you google search 'The Student Support Centre' you will find lots of bad press/complaints about the company and precious little positive comment. There are no statistics at all regarding success rates of children using the programme.
