Poor company, very cult-ish. Fall in line, or you'll be treated as an outcast. - Sales Tobermore Employee Review

Pros

Good for an introduction to Sales/Construction Sales. But I wouldn't recommend this company for more than a year or so to get your experience, then get out.

Cons

Tobermore have fully signed up to Dynamite Lifestyle - which is a Law of Manifestation cult/pyramid scheme. Expect to be pushed to post on their platform (and be assessed for it), expect to be encouraged to 'read books' on it, expect meditation sessions, etc. This is not a joke, and all these examples were things that we pushed on the team without our say-so. We were told after it being introduced: "If you don't like it, leave the company". Take that for what you will. For Sales, they have introduced a dynamic salary: if you do 'X' Sales in 2021/22 you get 'X' Salary. If you do higher, you get more. If you do lesser, you get less. There isn't a flat Salary any more, it's completely variable on your performance. Flat hierarchical structure - few opportunities to promote. Baffling senior leadership strategy - jobs will be advertised internally in January, then pulled out in March because 'we have changed our outlook'. Lots of micromanagement - I was in Specification Sales and they monitor your calls, output, diary (and if it's not colour-coded, woe betide you!), they will with-hold bonuses (even if you've hit your Sales Figures) because you might not have done the mandated 10 calls a day. I heard a Sectarian joke within my first week at the company (Rangers/Celtic joke as a Scottish co-worker got flown in and joked with the Taxi driver). Thankfully, didn't hear any more, just think that co-worker was a bit dim.

Pros

Some of my colleagues whilst working in Production were the best of people and made some friends for life during my time working there. Good staff outings unsure if it is still the same but multiple trips a year Belfast Giants and other entertainment Production Management are down to earth people for the most part.

Cons

Some of the working conditions in production are completely horrendous and would not look out of place as a Victorian workhouse, When certain products are being run in the KBH plant it is hell for leather for 12 hour shift sorting bricks into lanes that come down at an incredible pace while trying not to have your hand crushed by the bricks piling up or hit by your colleague who is literally tossing bricks like a frisbee into the right lane, multiple people have been injured in this way while some members of the team are happy to let their colleagues do all the work and sustain injuries trying to do keep up. Management are happy to keep extra men where they are not needed at times and not give someone else help due to the fact it has always been a one person job even though you are now doing 2-3 times the work because of Production demands. Yard at times is like Daytona speedway due to some of the people who are somehow allowed to drive forklifts/ grabtrucks it is only by the grace of God no one has been seriously injured by some of the driving The Main Office/ HQ has become cult like due to its sign up to Dynamic Lifestyle this has compounded an already cult like atmosphere where people who have worked for Tobermore for 10+ years have developed this big smiles and nod response to every question, some of the more senior members of the main office who are in senior positions are embarrassing people in particular the higher ups in the merchant team a few of whom have only got there by being complete yes men and would step on anyone to get ahead. The owner of the Firm will walk around occasionally in a way that would remind you of Michael D Higgins or the late Prince Philip doing a meet and greet. Very out of touch with the average worker Also have noticed current employees seem to be tasked to do product and job reviews, not a very transparent way to run a business. Salary is very behind the times for the wok you will be asked to do and for the amount of product sold the weekly bonus system does not actually add up to that much considering how much product is being sold. Very high staff turnover.

Pros

Supportive company with strong structures and processes in place. Good benefits, opportunities for growth and development, and a positive working environment

Cons

Like any employer, it won’t be the right fit for everyone, but I find the culture, expectations, and environment align well with me
