Pros
- Innovative business concept since there's a desperate need for child care and modernizing the industry with technology. - Employees of different ethnicities, cultures, and backgrounds working there. - Opportunities to diversify your experience since it's a start-up and they will stretch you thin. - Possible opportunity for early employee stocks, but consider whether it's worth sticking it out for several years on an empty promise in which you can be dropped from the company at any moment.
Cons
- TOOTRiS is the most toxic and unprofessional company I’ve ever worked at — and they’re in the field of CHILD CARE. - Employees are frequently yelled at and belittled for everything that goes wrong, even if beyond their control. Employees are also overworked with unrealistic expectations, underpaid with excessive and unnecessary pressure, and forced into roles that are neither in their job description nor even in their department. - You are expected to quietly keep your head down, work hard, and maintain a positive attitude at all times — if you dare disagree with management or call out the toxic work environment, you’ll be terminated on the spot. More people have been fired from TOOTRiS than there are people actually working there. - Although the CEO does have an impressive background, don’t be fooled by her convincing “successfully exited her last venture” story. She was fired as CEO at AbacusNext, her previous company, and brought along the CTO, CMO, and a few other AbacusNext veterans to maintain her authority. In return for their loyalty and submission, she rewards them with financial and professional growth. - According to Glassdoor reviews from early AbacusNext employees, the former CEO had unethical business practices, publicly humiliated employees, and never had a real HR department despite having 400+ employees. - The same remains true at TOOTRiS. Senior management dramatically alters and even fabricates its own testimonials, the CEO constantly yells at her employees to the point where everyone secretly hates their job, and HR itself is just the CEO so employees don’t have a safe, mutual place to turn to for help. Employees are stigmatized and taken advantage of, and there was heavy nepotism in the workplace at one point. - Despite all the perks for child care providers, at the end of the day, profit is all the C-levels at TOOTRiS truly care about — they just happened to stumble across a really great solution to a nation-wide problem. - If you read this and are still willing to apply at TOOTRiS, prepare to be sweet talked past all the obvious red flags. - Although the business itself may be successful, I don't see TOOTRiS ever improving internally because the toxic work culture starts from the top down and is instilled in the three C-levels that founded the company.
