Pros
TQL provides an excellent training regimen for those interested in the domestic transportation industry. After your initial six month training period, the base salary helps you get by for months 6-15 while you build a book of business. The sky really is the limit as far as how much you can earn. There are people who get by on 50-60k per year, and those who make well over 300k. If you have a no excuses attitude, you will be rewarded. For those that are successful, there are plenty of opportunities to rise through the management ranks. TQL has been and will continue to be in a high growth stage for some time. Take advantage of it.
Cons
Moving freight is mundane. It is stressful, messy, and always uncertain. Stay away from TQL if you get stressed easily. Forget about vacation days. The package you are offered is miniscule and it is difficult to take more than a day off at any time. Leaving for the day means having someone else handle your accounts. Without an assistant, this could mean disaster. Your book of business is like a stock portfolio. Balanced and diversified will help you endure market forces and competition. The only problem with balanced and diversified is that it is very difficult to obtain. Often times your book of business is luck of the draw, whatever you can get and whatever you can keep. There is a lot of chance involved and while hard work will mean success at some point down the line, it's hard to stay positive when you are drowning on a 35k salary. You will become elated with success one moment and find it hard to continue after a day of things going wrong. Even if you are good at managing your book, a lot of what goes wrong in transportation is completely beyond your control.
