Pros
The job provided a lot of flexibility and work from home during the pandemic with minimal micro management from leadership . PTO, 401k match, and health insurance is standard for the industry. I have about 22 days of PTO which is nice. There are plenty of opportunities to gain experience and develop yourself for the career path you are interested in. Advancement opportunities exist but are extremely competitive. The work load is very manageable. I definitely work less 40 hours but get paid significantly less than other departments.
Cons
There is a huge inequality divide in terms of treatment and compensation between underwriting and operations. The organization is very political and only favorites are chosen to for career advancement. You have to play their game so experience and performance can only get you so far compared to popularity and a** kissing. Also, be prepared to have managers who have no idea about your job. They are completely useless when it comes to the functions and operations of your role. Management is constantly changing so I have had 6 managers in a 2.5 year span. I complained about it since this has hindered my development and was basically gas lighted and told to get over it by my manager and by HR. This has significantly tarnished my image of the company. It's a decent company that provides good benefits and pay but be prepared for an old school type of culture where who you know is more important than what you know. Leadership toots its own horn about caring about it's employees, but when the time arises they will push you to the curb and tell you to get over it. Please be aware of this when applying for jobs here. They are also very stingy with bonuses and raises. This is a multi-billion dollar, fortune 100 hundred company, yet every department gets a limited amount of money for raises and bonuses. Some people get neither for just doing their day to day job. You have to go above and beyond to even get a raise, really disappointing for a company if this size. Be prepared to work your butt off and kiss a** to get any merit whatsoever or be disappointed.
