Pros

Decent Pay Good benefits Once you gain some experience and get some authority they tend to leave you alone. Minimal micro management in my office Company car Permanent work from home position

Cons

Severely understaffed and the company cannot retain people to save their lives. Pay raises are a complete joke You're literally another number in the system Management is completely out of touch with how to do the job and come up with stupid "guidelines" on how things should be done despite the fact that those that are making these decisions haven't actually done the job. Dangling bonuses in peoples faces only for them to pull them out from under you For those that choose to stick around you have more and more work piled on you making it impossible to actually do your job. Unrealistic KPI's and expectations from customers who think they've just been handed a blank check book Dealing with contractors or salesman who will throw whatever they can at the wall to see what sticks so they can get a little extra commission.

Pros

We receive continuous training to stay up to date with new state regulations and market trends. My colleagues make the day go by quickly. The benefits are very reasonable. There is room for career growth if you know how to network. I appreciate their consistent push for community volunteer opportunities.

Cons

The personal lines department seems to be falling apart right now. Issues with the internal systems are resulting in underwriters doing multiple jobs and becoming a dumping ground for all agent issues even if they aren't underwriting related. I don't feel that the directors are truly expressing to the senior leadership team the impact that all these issues are having on the mental health and quality of life for the employees that are on the front lines trying to maintain a good reputation for the company. It's sad to see how quickly this department has gone downhill and the amount of quality underwriters that are jumping ship for different departments or different companies all together. What's even sadder it that no one with authority seems to care, or listen, when concerns are brought forth. I truly advise anyone considering applying for any position within the personal insurance department to hold off until things start to change - it's not worth the mental anguish that you'll experience.
