Pros

Benefits offered: Year end profit sharing, company pic-nic and Christmas party , beer Friday every other Friday, free shuttle from Metra stations , and Fooda (not subsidized), FSA, decent health benefits, 401K, and department outings (once yearly. *These are standard perks offered at most companies in Chicago so they are not unique.

Cons

Management: Nepotism exists among management and it's a problem. Outdated management style that heavily relies on McGregor’s Theory “X” style of management - in other words, they're a carrot and stick company. An over-abundance of VPs and Directors has harboured a culture of ego. Bullying and harassment is a norm. Senior management has been known to yell and swear at employees, for example. So loud that it can be heard across the entire office. On a company wide basis, sexual harassment is also very prevalent. Culture and people: The seasoned employees are stuck in their old ways and refuse to challenge the status quo to make modern changes. Maybe it is complacency or a result of the nepotism that goes on so it is a futile exercise to challenge the status quo. There are plenty employees who never outgrew entry level jobs - reasons are plenty, but the fact still remains. Technology: There has been an attempt to do some data analytics. The company, however, does not understand that this is a complex scope of work that requires management and employees who are properly trained in this field. Lower level admins and mid level management, with zero data science experience, are often expected to develop this type of work. Data handling is complex but it is often treated as something simple like using basic level Excel formulas and pivot tables. In house “hacks” and workarounds are common rather than investing in modern technology and employees specifically trained in those technologies.
