Pros

US Bank has locations all around the United States and it is quite easy to transfer laterally or across your business line if geographic location is necessary. Unlike many other financial institutions, US Bank is willing to promote at higher levels from outside the organization - several VP and higher leaders have history outside USB. Depending on your timing - incentive plans are always a work in progress and at times can be extremely lucrative at all levels. In a time of tumultous banking, US Bank has been led from the top in a very conservative way. . . US Bank will emerge from this time as the 4th to 5th largest financial institution in the United Sates.

Cons

Individuals hired from outside US Bank (or rehired after leaving the bank for a short period) typically get onboarded at a higher salary grade than employees showing loyalty to the company (and receiving annual merit increases). Constant campaigns and changes in initiatives make it difficult to coach/lead to a consistent message. Incentive plan changes from year to year - no consistent expectation around dollars earned. Even in uncertain economic times, the same expectation for growth looms overhead - very rare adjustment to market conditions beyond leadership control. Be ready to be very patient for that dream promotion within US Bank - loyalty and tenure with the company are the lower rated of traits to be considered qualified.

Pros

The pay is market average, and the benefits are quite good. I love my peers. The vast majority of them are kind and talented people. I truly enjoyed my first several years with the company. Well past the honeymoon period for a new employer. And at the time, I recommended this place to anyone I knew looking for a job.

Cons

Management is a mess from the bottom up. The culture of the company has drastically changed over the last several years because of frequent retirements, layoffs, and reorganizations. Employees I know from across describe the same experience: the company has gone from outstanding culture to one that feels openly hostile to its employees. Management decisions are built like cudgels and enforced through all stick and no carrot.
