Timing. If a project is open and money is available it's a good opportunity, especially if your interest's match with the research group, as opportunities are few. Great staff and access to machine shop.
Cons
Hard to maintain training outside of academia, for those seeking industry type jobs. Not enough student worker's with training to speed up the lab.
