Pros

There are many opportunities to see multiple medical situations and for a new graduate as a nurse or therapist this should be a great opportunity for you to experience things you might not and other facilities In town.

Cons

University of Colorado Hospital Has an outward appearance of healthcare excellence, however after being an employee for a while you start to see extremely concerning scenarios throughout the hospital. Oftentimes clinicians are overloaded with patients to an unsafe standard. Nurses can have up to four patients in the ICU without any relief staff willing to come in. Respiratory therapy often has complained about having triple the workload of any hospital in the state of Colorado. As a clinician in the ICU at university I have seen mini unsafe situations involving residents /new doctors not make good medical decisions. Management and administration have a culture of abuse and cover-up questionable instance that happen at the hospital. Just In the last 12 months there have been three staff members who had committed suicide on campus. None of these incidences made the media because the media has been paid off by the hospital. A neurosurgeon committed suicide in his car in the parking lot of the hospital and nobody spoke about it! Another employee hung himself from the balcony of the hospital and staff members that saw the incident were asked to go home and or resign from their job. The Hospital is so voracious in their ability to squash any negative reviews that this review will be taken down as soon as they find it. Lastly HR is not your friend it is there to protect the hospital and not the employee. If you feel that you have a situation that is serious enough to go to HR just simply find a new job!

Pros

High Acuity patients Maintain Skillset Job security

Cons

Too many patients in a day and not enough time to spend with them. Minimal admin time to manage InBasket and patient needs. Frequently need to juggle a full and complex patient schedule with urgent test results and care coordination. Have to use personal PTO to cover holidays and any time the clinic is closed due to circumstances outside of our control. (weather, power outages, etc) Annual performance Bonuses are now being determined by online patient feedback scores.
