There is a middle management layers of peers who have been here for years and never learned the basics of good management. I found this layer of management to have too much power, they are vindictive and untrustworthy. Instead of utilizing employees to their fullest potential, the culture is to stand in line and follow instructions without questioning. A practice I witnessed multiple times when management wants to fire someone, they will strip the individuals responsibilities and have them sit idle until they leave. The shift of workload is put on other department staff members who are over worked. In general creates an unhealthy work environment.
As a tax payer of state employees I find this dysfunctional political behavior unacceptable. Although UCLA teaches best business management practice at the University, unfortunately is not practiced at the work place.
