      Amazing job security & benefits package. Great camaraderie and sense of purpose. Guaranteed opportunity for advancement. With bonus & tax-advantage, compensation can be competitive with other middle management jobs.

      Cons

      Long hours and long periods at sea away from family. Difficult work/life balance. Pay scale is not merit based (rank based), but increases for inflation.
