Pros

If you live in Dorking, it's the prettiest of the out-of-town sites. Most people really are very nice, but that's in stark contrast to the Executive Committee and most of the HR department. I note that this theme has come up in several other reviews - great co-workers, but not great executive management.

Cons

Executive Committee and some senior management go on and on about the Unum values - integrity, caring, pride, courage, commitment and accountability, without displaying a shred of any of these traits. It is also a bit worrying how out-of-touch many of the more senior figures are, both technically and in soft skills. They'll tell you very earnestly that black is white and expect you to believe it.

Pros

Strong work-life balance, supportive leadership, and a collaborative culture that feels more people-focused than many large corporations. Hybrid flexibility, solid benefits, and long-term stability make it a great place to build a career. There are also good opportunities for internal growth and cross-functional experience.

Cons

Decision-making can sometimes move slowly due to layers of process and approvals. Compensation may not always be as competitive as larger tech-focused companies, and organizational changes or transformation initiatives can occasionally create ambiguity or shifting priorities. Like many large enterprises, bureaucracy can at times impact speed and innovation.
