Pros
Their motto that they started with when they first created the company. If they had kept that up the way they had when I first started working there, they would still have employees their that care about the company. The community and the way they treated their employees at first was the reason I accepted the job.
Cons
They are utterly disorganized. Management is crap. LET ME REPEAT, MANAGEMENT IS CRAP. There is no growth opportunity in your career unless you beg and pry for something. Even then, typically only the standard white Cali/NYC startup kids have gotten any sort of management position/are listened to. That part is really sad, seeing as 3 out of the 5 cofounders aren't white. UrbanStems likes to act like they represent other races and cultures well, and think they are diverse. This is wrong. They have "token" black people and asian people they use in all of their marketing. Marketing team and basically all of corporate is 99.9% white. But HEY! you hired that random black person to help out in Ops and on the Happiness Team, so it's all good now. They have this "drink the startup koolaid" mentality. They think if they toss in a pizza party, and occasional beers, that we'll ignore the other issues. Quality of product has nosedived, its embarrassing. Finances are all over the place and being spent in the wrong place on the wrong things. They stopped caring about their employees and started chasing the money, started over paying themselves, over paying for really stupid marketing, over paying for new employees to come in and "fix" things, and underpaying others who had been there for years and dedicated so much of their time. Their were so many great minds and people willing to help this company succeed, but they are too caught up in the stupid "cool" factor rather than the quality and employee care that was what made them stand out. Now Stems is just another 1800 flowers.
