Pros
I have been thinking about the company Very Good Security and today want to give you my honest and direct feedback. - After almost a year with the company, I find Very Good Security a first rate startup company. If I was offered another more challenging position with better-than-average pay with better benefits I would say to the other companies, “No, Thank you.” - Very Good Security has been listed by Forbes to be the next billion dollar company. I believe smart, great things will happen in the very near future. We are moving forward and soaring upwards. - Very Good Security has grown positively from their start up in 2016, we now have a team of smart, experienced C-suite to execute the company’s vision, mission and value. - Management and People Ops have created a psychological safe environment. We are remote first! VGS is looking out for employees safety and meant it seriously while we battle through the Corona virus pandemic. - Management has built a foundation of trust through listening, executing on ideas, praising accomplishments, sharing information publicly and trusting teammates. - We have regular performance catch ups, and weekly casual check ins. This improves company culture, trust and for those weekly check ins, ensures that we are aligned, on the right track working on high priority goals. At every weekly meeting, my manager always asks “How can I help?” She not only listens, but acts on my ideas, and sometimes offers genius solutions! - Employees provide input via surveys regularly for rich and actionable feedback that often leads to creative ideas, improvements for self, and for co-workers. These surveys ask for areas where we need to improve or make changes in the company. - Sales, Product + Engineering, Legal, Marketing, Operations, Customer Success teams work collaboratively. The product teams recognize uncertainty and the necessity of interdependence among team members. This is getting better now that the Chief Product Officer is on board. - For difficult projects, everyone learns together as we go along, tackling problems that no one knows the answer to yet. This results in having everyone’s voices heard in the process of finding a solution. - In the past year, everyone that I have either helped or requested for help has been a positive experience. There are many incredibly smart team members here at Very Good Security. - CEO CTO executives and C-suite leaders: All executives I have worked with are incredibly skillful, sharp, and highly competent. This includes Sales, Marketing, Legal, Channels, Engineering and Product, Finance/Operations. They have the proficiency, commitment, and drive to lead and execute. - The CEO and CTO are both extremely approachable. I personally have regular one-on-one meetings with the co-founder! I have a high degree of confidence in them as leaders. Both the CEO and the CTO have an open-door policy and are ready to receive honest and genuine feedback, comments, complaints and suggestions. And for those who had provided negative feedback about the CEO not being approachable is nonsense, unfounded. - Sometimes I’ve observed the company’s CEO and CTO have a paranoia and a sense of urgency with stating their leadership model, their vision, mission, value, and culture. I say it is human to have paranoia; the passion as they are a powerful way to describe the company that is growing, soaring upwards to becoming the next billion $ company. I am fortunate that in my role, I also tend to operate in a similar vigilant and paranoia (passion) while maintaining an eternal optimism that Very Good Security can solve any problem.
Cons
- The majority of the C-suites are fairly new. They need to act quickly, build, execute and communicate their plans to align with the company’s mission. - Closer executives bonding to evolve a collective agenda, reduce the urge to constantly change direction. Send a cohesive message to ensure company-wide, everyone receives them. - Invest in training internally to empower all employees with new opportunities for growth. Ensure knowledge transferred is well documented and applied.
