Pros

Anyone under RVP are great to deal with. Hours can vary and pay is adequate. Schedule is flexible depending on your on site Director and Supervisors.

Cons

This company mainly contracts their officers to work in shopping malls and outlets. They only care about the contracts it holds with other property groups. Usually they end up being contracted by property groups because they are willing to accept full liability for any security related incidence and pay their employees below the corporate threshold. They care very little about their officers well being; for instance, our location does not allow officers to carry any intermediate weapons for personal protection ie. mace, baton, taser. Our property owner also feels that these items and firearms would "influence the public that the property is unsafe and that the officers need these weapons to gain control of unruly individuals." All the company cares about is keeping the contract and decreasing liability for themselves. They'll hang officers out to dry in order to prevent from getting sued, even if the officer did the right thing. They will make SOP's and expect you to abide by them but if the company or property is sued because an officer followed them, then they will just claim that their actions were against SOP's and fire that officer. All officers are considered "glorified door greeters," nothing more. If you see a crime take place, you are not sanctioned by the company to act in order to apprehend the suspects. You are expected to stand by and only report activities to police. Training is scarce. They do not want to pay officers in order to have in service training or exercises. When you're hired, your training consists of reading a large book and taking tests over the material, NO hands on training. Defensive tactics will need to be learned prior to employment. Officers are only allowed to use defensive tactics when your life is on the line ie. when allowed to use deadly force. Licensed and commissioned law enforcement person ell be warned, your training and instincts will contradict what this company expects you to do. If you are thinking of working here as a part time gig or as a gap filler between departments, don't. People take you for granted, insult you, test your resolve and most importantly, blame you when something goes wrong. With this company, you will find more struggles than triumphs. Also be aware that the property owner holding this company's contract is king, when they want Valor to do something, Valor will do it. Exercise caution if seeking employment with this company.

Pros

It doesn't take much in order to be a trained security officer for this company. The training is fairly painless, as well as the job itself. The hours are decent depending on the times of your shift in which you applied for. The people you work with are pretty nice and easy going, and the bosses are typically understanding.

Cons

The pay is the obvious down side to this job. It's hard to make a living on $10/hour, especially when they don't let you get any overtime, no matter how badly they might need the help. The boss directly above you is usually pretty easy going, but once you go above him (Director of Security), they are all jerks and really don't seem to care about anyone but themselves. The job itself is boring and you don't really have any say or power or privileges other than to "observe and report." You are required to scan checkpoints around the premesis every hour for your entire shift, which gets really old very fast. The company is more worried about protecting themselves and not getting sued than doing what you're hired to do in the first place.
