Pros

- Employee discount (50% off for all VF Corporation owned companies, including Vans, North Face, Timberland, etc) - Fun working environment/coworkers

Cons

- Pure corporate greed. Their profit margins were suffering, so they laid off over 100 of the district and regional managers last year and just did another massive layoff internally for the managers/supervisors in stores. They have cut the headcount, labor hours, and pay rates down to the bare minimum, leaving skeleton crews, but ramping up the job requirements and expectations. “Squeezing blood from a turnip”, so to speak. - They also hired FAR less qualified people in management after the layoff because they’re “cheaper labor”, and trust me.. You feel it. The environment has become toxic and no one is competent in their jobs in the higher up positions, so the work falls on the shoulders of those beneath them. - Again, as an attempt for the company to save as much money as possible, they have cut nearly every incentive the employees used to be able to earn based on performance. Yet, they now have a constant rotation of promos available for the customers. They want more and more from their workers while they continue to strip what little they offered in return. - Vans used to be about “The Van Doren Way”. Putting their people first. Employees and customers included. Now that they’ve been absorbed by VF Corporation, it’s just another parasitic company feeding off their hosts.

Pros

The environment is absolutely amazing with my coworkers and they are always supportive. Any issues that arise are met with a high level of humanity - on the base level of the people I work with, because I haven't really delt with corporate. It genuinely feels nice to work here when you have a team like mine. The culture of skating is absolutely amazing to learn about at VANs and be a part of as well. I like the history behind some of the shoes, but that's probably just because I'm a history nerd.

Cons

Part time doesn't get many hours or enough pay to survive off of. However, you can't become full time unless you get a higher position. Sadly, they are incredibly hard to get, due to the fact people seem to stay with VANs if they get that promotion, just because it seems to be great to work here once you have that higher position. As well as the usual shift is 4 hours, and sometimes you only get one shift a week. It's just incredibly hard to stay here when it can't even give you enough money on your paychecks to get a small amount of groceries that'll last one person two weeks.
