Pros

Don't fall for those 5 star reviews posted by management and "People & Culture" (most commonly known as HR). Yes, they offer perks such as having a fully stocked kitchen, letting dogs run free in the office, Apple gear to do your job, birthday celebrations, liquor runs on Fridays, above average salaries, etc. There are a small handful of amazing people who are genuinely nice. It basically seems like anyone's dream job at the start. It stays that way for about 2 or 3 weeks, and then their true colours start to show.

Cons

I don't know where to start really. The place is full of high school cliques and HR is non-existent. People who sacrifice their time and who try to exceed expectations are put down and under appreciated. Nothing you do is ever good enough. While more senior staff hangs around chit-chatting all day about garbage and personal issues and making fun of customers. There are a few slackers on the management team who will go out and take 2 hour gym breaks, chill on the couches, talk to their friends and pretend they're actually working. The attitudes of a few people in this office, especially on the support team are absolutely disgusting. There may or may not be a couple of people who think they're the best thing since sliced bread. Massive egos. People who like to exercise authority just because they can. Just because they know each other outside of work, a few of them stuck together constantly and are very unwelcoming of new employees. It's like a club that you can't join, and they make it known that they have to accept you first before you're "one of them". theure the worst people I've ever met, and I wouldn't wish my experience on anyone. There are people who don't deserve to be part of the leadership team, but they're promoted anyway because they like to party after work and they fit in socially with management. If you miss one of their forced outings where you're supposed to have "fun", you're labeled as someone who isn't a team player and they'll start second guessing you. If they don't like you for the sake of not liking you, good luck, because you're going to need it big time. Look for a real job at a place that will respect you, because this place knows nothing at all about respect or hard work. Do yourself a favour and stay far, far away.

Hi there, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Vend. While there are some things you thought we could have done better, your perspective on what went wrong is a valuable one, and will help us to foster an even better working environment for current and future employees. Kudos (and thank you!) for acknowledging the perks at Vend. We consider these things basic amenities for a workforce like ours. They’re rooted in giving people flexibility and freedom in doing their job the way they like to do it. It sounds like that freedom was something you felt was perhaps unfair or misused? Vend is a busy and fast-paced place. We know our staff work hard, and not just within your typical 9 to 5 workday. That’s why we afford people the freedom to run their day the way they need to. We’d rather be a results-oriented environment over one that values minutes spent in the office. We put trust in people to do their job well and for those that do take time out of their day, we see them making up for this outside of typical work hours. This freedom is also provided as we're a global company. Toronto managers are often up later connecting with the Auckland or Melbourne office(s), while some folks in Auckland get up a little earlier to collaborate with London workers. We really appreciate this commitment to syncing with one another, even when people are at opposite ends of the globe! We understand everyone is unique, which is why we give folks freedom and trust in the workplace. In saying this, everything we offer is a ‘choose-your-own-level-of-participation’ deal. We don’t want to force perks or team outings on anybody, and we’re sorry that you felt this was the case. Managers are encouraged to utilize entertainment budget in a way that suits everyone, which can be a tall order sometimes. That being said, we certainly do not base staff achievement on their willingness to participate in these external activities. We also know Vend isn’t for everybody. And that’s why we build in 30, 45 and 60 day check-ins with new starts to stay on the pulse of how things are going. Team leads and managers are empowered to run these conversations to ensure targets and learning milestones are being met within someone’s first 90 days at Vend. So in this sense you’re right, HR is non-existent. For issues outside of these conversations, we’re here to support new starts the entire way. We’re cheering them on from the sidelines! But we empower our managers to have meaningful conversations with employees around performance as they’ll know what’s working, or not working, and they know best how to ensure their team is reaching their goals. Once again, thanks for your honesty. There sure are some key takeaways here for People & Culture and we’ll continue working to make Vend an even more amazing place to be. All the best in your next adventure! Take care, Sandra, Toronto P&C

Pros

This company has a legit chance of becoming the best in the world at what we do, which is super inspiring and makes you jump out of bed in the morning to get to work. The projects and opportunities available to you are endless, and you can really rise within the company to whatever you're capable of.

Cons

The pace at Vend is super fast, so if you're not on the ball and on top of your game then you can get left behind. Also, you'll need to adapt well to change as the company is growing rapidly.
