Pros
There’s never a dull moment! This office is full of fun and laughter (and plants, in various states of aliveness). It’s really busy, so the days just fly by. There’s also an infinite supply of coffee, which is helpful. There’s real scope for personal growth here too. If you can see something the company could be doing but isn’t, and you have ideas, then you just need to chat about them in the friendly, open office about working towards making it so. It’s currently small, but expanding ever faster, which is very exhilarating on a daily basis.
Regular (although sporadic and mostly based on quarterly company performance) pay rises and bonuses are also a major pro - you never feel like you’re stagnating here!
I used to work in the TV industry, so while this job is pretty high pressure for an office job, it is still NOWHERE NEAR as stressful as the “minimum 12 hours” TV industry. The novelty of having evenings at home still hasn’t worn off!
Cons
Sometimes the extreme level of busy-ness can get a bit too stressful, and you can be on the verge of burnout. The team is there to support me, and it normally means there is some extenuating circumstance making it more stressful than usual, but it does happen.
Sometimes there is a vibe of feeling ‘guilty’ about calling in sick or going on holiday, or even leaving on time, because it’s so busy all the time that you don’t want to make things harder for the people you work with.
