Pros
The competitive and challenging work environment. I learned so much in my time at Channel 9 and had great teachers who taught me how to think critically and write concisely. Expectations are high here but whenever I asked someone for help or to learn more, they always delivered--whether it was a colleague or a supervisor. It's not like that everywhere.
Cons
The television business isn't known for good work-life balance so that goes without saying, but more than anything, the distribution of wealth here is staggering. For the #1 station in Central Florida, they actually aren't competitive when it comes to pay. My assessment is that all of the money is allocated to the top, on camera anchors and upper level management and then thinly distributed among whoever is left. Producers stand to make thousands of more money at the other stations in town, and don't seem valued here.
