Pros

You get paid an hourly wage although for this field we are underpaid.

Cons

If you ever wanted to go back in time to a sweat shop this is the place. You can't use your 5 sick days given unless you have a DR note. But don't worry HR will tell you "we give you guys state minimum requirement like that's something to be proud of. They will stick you in a room with rows of desk with no privacy. They will tell you when you start work from home 2 days a week but will take it away and give you 3 day notice, They then will tell you it's coming back only to have them not reply to emails about when the WFH will return. The HR department is horrible they will gaslight when you complain about the company policies. They also search up every platform and will call you in the office if they see you updated your resume and or are open to work. They truly don't care if you have a family and expect you to work 70's for 4 months straight and if you can't work you'll get questioned on why you can't work the hours told. They want you to do as they say when they say with no argument. As designers we have been told if we don't meet deadlines "we fail" and that it's "our" fault. Just so they can try to get the work out they were late to the ball with. Overall this is a horrible place to work! As soon as we all find out what kind of place this is we all start to leave. Also they know there is an issue bc they have the owners son going around asking why so many people are leaving. They refuse to make changes to better the environment for their employees. If you complain about the lighting or temperature in the room you are told "you don't like it your desk can be sitting in mound" overall this is place is not a place any human being would want to work.

Waltonen Engineering Response

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about your experience and take your concerns seriously. Waltonen does not currently pay any employee minimum wage. Furthermore, this particular employee was paid what was asked for and made far more than requested at year end. To clarify, we follow Michigan’s state-mandated sick leave laws, and our policies are designed to meet those requirements. Regarding our office setup, we understand that open floor plans may not suit everyone. However, this design is intended to encourage open communication and collaboration within teams. Many of our employees appreciate this layout for fostering teamwork and accessibility. We are 100% supportive of working from home and recognize the benefits it offers. We have implemented work-from-home arrangements where feasible and will continue to assess all groups as customer needs evolve. The only time these arrangements change is when there is a specific change required by our customers, as our workload and schedules are heavily influenced by their needs. We communicate updates to employees as soon as we receive them and strive to provide as much notice as possible. We understand that extended hours can be challenging, which is why we include overtime pay in our benefits package, along with double-time pay on Sundays, to fairly compensate our employees for their time and effort. We also offer the opportunity to start the day in the office and finish the day from home. The HR De4partment is there to advocate for our employees. The benefits that our employees receive (insurance, paid holidays, paid sick days, decrease in waiting period for certain benefits, increase in 401K matching, etc.) along with pay rates and pay increases are all negotiated/implemented by the HR Team on behalf of the employees. Waltonen is actively searching for new team members for open positions. Inevitably we are searching the same sites that are the most popular for candidates to post their resumes. As might be expected if we see one of our employees posting their resume on these sites it is a concern, and we typically will talk with that employee to find out why they may be looking elsewhere and if there is anything that we can do to rectify the situation. We aim to foster an open and collaborative work environment. Our managers (including the owner’s son) may walk around to engage in friendly conversations with employees and check-in. We also make reasonable accommodations to improve the work environment whenever possible. Lastly, we want to emphasize that we do not assign blame or label employees as failures. Our focus is on supporting our team in meeting deadlines and achieving shared success. We appreciate your feedback and remain committed to making improvements. If you’d like to discuss further, we encourage you to reach out directly.

Pros

Waltonen is a great place to work. Our team is diverse and has strengths in various areas allowing us to satisfy and maintain strong relationships with our customers. We have team members of all experience levels, from entry-level to senior employees. The environment is friendly and I enjoy coming to work. Overall, it is a great place to work no matter where you are in your career! The company is fair and really cares about the well-being of its employees. Recognition is not a given nowadays, so it is great to feel that our work here is appreciated!

Cons

The endless construction on Mound Road is my only complaint.

Pros

Very diverse work culture with people from different backgrounds. Overall it is a stable place to work. If you do a good job, they will allow you to advance and work on other projects/opportunities. Flexible with health appointments and other outside activities. Good benefits package compared to others in the industry. Diversified business portfolio. They do company events that make us feel appreciated, such as gift cards around birthdays, holidays, luncheons, monthly raffles, etc. Everyone is friendly and enjoys working together. Can work from home when possible, depending on the customer you are working for.

Cons

Your workload and schedule heavily depend on the customer due to the nature of the service business. Hours can fluctuate and be long during peak times, depending on the group you’re in. No surprise as this was covered during initial interviews. You do get compensated for the overtime and can make a lot of money.
