Pros

Get to attend some events Washingtonian hosts for free. The other half of the time you have to pay full price.

Cons

Washingtonian Magazine is old fashioned and because of its older fashioned ways, the company will not make it past this decade. There is absolutely no room for growth or professional development. It's also not something of interest of the CEO or supervisors have in mind for the employees. They have old people as department heads who are not attune with the media space which is causing the company to self destruct. Not open to change, employees are constantly leaving cause high turn over, pay is extremely below average and no raises are given unless you work there for more than 10 years. A lot of favoritism, no good real benefits at all, and no HR department to file reports of harassment, discrimination, and sexism.

Pros

Friendly Employees, straightforward work, good community! I often finished early and had time to work on my own projects. The mentorship is great!

Cons

Pay is low, outdated fact-checking, dying industry. When working events, there is little structure and direction for setting up. Superiors will often "forget" to give you breaks while they network. Given the history of magazine, there is limitations on reporting. Most of what you do is puff pieces. Do not expect to write about anything that isn't important to residents of NW DC.
