      Poor management, bad HR - Photographer WebWorks89 Employee Review

      Pros

      A lot of promises when I started working there.

      Cons

      Poorly organized, put employees as 1099 so they don't have to pay their taxes. Lack of communication and ethics. High turnover. They have their 1099 photographer non-employees sign a non-compete? And then fire them after a few months. When I brought up that I felt I may be more of an employee than a contract laborer because they were setting my schedule and had me sign a non-compete, and wouldn't honor my pay request, they stopped scheduling me. Didn't even have the common courtesy to communicate to me that we wouldn't be working together anymore.

We take concerns about contractor versus employee classification, non-compete agreements, and how scheduling and pay discussions are handled very seriously. We understand how frustrating it can be to feel that the role, status, or compensation you were expecting is not clearly defined or followed through on, and that communication around changes was not as direct as it should have been. Since the period you’re referencing, we have been working to better define roles and classifications, document expectations in writing, and improve how we communicate when schedules or working relationships change. Treating the people who work with us professionally and with respect is important, and your feedback reinforces the need to keep improving in these areas.

      Pros

      None, the boss talks a good game beforehand and makes it seem like you’ll be doing digital marketing when in reality you’ll just be an assistant.

      Cons

      I was hired as the digital media manager and only lasted two days. He never intimated in the job description, over the phone, or in the in person interview that I would be an assistant but the first day I worked there he old me he thought of me more as “his executive assistant with some marketing aspects”. I had to get his coffee, walk his dog (4 times in one day), and proof read his sons college essay “because I was an English major”. He told me the first day that I would have some bill collectors calling (yikes) and had me call his clients to collect their payments. He also spent a lot of time telling me some very personal family stuff. He also gave me dating advice within the first 3 hours of me being there and told me he “hoped I could add a woman’s touch to the office”. (Double yikes) Since I was a contract employee I sent him a bill for my two days worth of work after I quit and he STILL hasn’t paid me (it’s been almost a month). I don’t want anyone to make the same mistake I did of taking a job here.
