Pros

the magazine is quite pretty

Cons

for the most part, no direction from management whatsoever, but when they do occassionally give feedback, they blame/accuse and micromanage. unprofessional leadership. claim to be 'generous' with benefits but provide the bare minimum as required by law. overworked employees. high stress environment. extremely high turnover. no flexibility.

Our management style is clear from the get-go when we bring on staff. YES! We DO require employees that enjoy working with autonomy, independence, and proactivity. NO, we don't have a lot of meetings or daily check-ins. We’re a small team, and each person has an important role. We provide clear instruction during the training phase and need our staff to follow procedures while proactively managing themselves without supervision. For the person that requires daily guidance and tutorship, this presents a challenge. This person found out quickly that our needs are not within their abilities. For other team members, (who have been with us for years), the format of our management style is a fit. Notably, this past employee has spelled “occasionally” incorrectly in her complaint. As a media company, we have to require our team to spell words accurately and be laser-focused with details, at all times. That is our baseline as a media company. When constant errors are happening, we do have to step in and micromanage, unfortunately. Turnover in junior positions has been because of this exact problem. It has been harder than we imagined to find people that are naturally great with spelling. We’ve also found that junior staff turn over quickly when they realize a "wedding" media company is just like any other company - filled with daily administrative needs that don’t have anything to do with flowers or pretty things. (Even though we do love flowers and pretty things, obviously!) Regarding salary, employees are paid based on their level of education and work experience. Some of our past administrative team members or interns have been new to the work force and are paid accordingly. Our team members who are senior and have thrived with our management style are paid accordingly, have eye/dental/and full medical coverage, and have four weeks paid vacation time. Junior staffers do not have the same benefits. In terms of being over-worked, our staff work eight hours a day, Monday to Friday. Weekends are extremely rare - and required only twice a year when our print magazine is in final production. The volume of work is very busy and our clients are very particular. Again, some personalities are a fit for this, while other personalities prefer a slower pace and a smaller workload. We agree wholeheartedly, we aren’t a fit for the latter type.

Pros

Great company to work for if you like to be watched on the Nest camera while the founders are on “vacation” and timed for lunch which is 30 min- far from the 1 hour most normal companies a lot for

Cons

Being spied on No organization or direction from founders

The reality check on this particular comment is that this comment was left by a terminated (disgraced!) employee who YES, was seen on the security camera arriving almost two hours late every day for work, then leaving for extended lunches for an entire week while we were on an annual family vacation. We do not spy on employees. The office foyer NEST camera is within full display of our entire team, and its purpose is entirely for security purposes as our office is accessible from the street with floor-to-ceiling glass doors and we have a lot of expensive computers. The NEST camera sends notifications to our iPhones when there is activity in the office foyer. In this case, we were extremely disappointed to see this person breaking our trust, while we were thousands of miles away but we’re glad to have known sooner rather than later. We are a dog-friendly office but she was also bringing in her barking puppy all week long without our permission. All in all, we felt like she was not trustworthy. There was also a series of lies she was caught in about a trip. (Sigh.) C was hired as a senior team member in a business development role and was expected to come up with ideas of her own to develop an entirely new division of the business. This was the premise of her employment. She was not able to rise to the challenge and struggled to come up with ideas or plans of any kind. She was promptly fired after we returned from our vacation and didn’t take it well.

Pros

I loved working at WedLuxe. Management was clear from the beginning that the reason that they hired me was because they thought that I was the best candidate and they wanted to place trust in me that I’d just handle the position that I was hired for. Great feeling! Management are totally approachable unlike some other layered corporations and if I ever had any questions they were there to help. There are a lot of really helpful systems and resources which made my experience really painless. My partner got a job outside of WedLuxe’s office area so I had to reluctantly relocate otherwise I would loved to have stayed longer. Colleagues were super nice - nothing but a great time working for WedLuxe! If you’re pro-active, smart and a go-getter who is actually helping move the company along you’ll be happy here.

Cons

Not for anyone who walks into an office in the morning and expects others to tell you what to do!
