Pros

Graduate students are great mentors. You can have your own project. Hours are flexible and can be balanced with school work. You are given opportunities to network, present, and grow as a researcher.

Cons

The pay is low compared to average engineering internships. Funding for you and your project can vary depending upon whether research grants are successful and the lab professor's budget. You generally have to volunteer in the lab first before they agree to fund you.

Pros

Can be pretty easy if most of your work is office hours. I had about seven hours a week and most of the time there weren't many students.

Cons

Grading was a lot harder than I expected. Pretty demoralizing honestly; a lot of clearly ChatGPT submissions (ECE programming class mostly with freshmen who'd never seen code before, so not surprising). Grading paper exams was fine.
