Pros
The year I was graduating, the funded students unionized and are ratifying a better constitution for worker rights, pay, etc. Lots of good changes coming and making the experience more consistent across labs instead of making the experience reliant on if you're working with a nice professor or an awful one.
Cons
A lot is still reliant on individual professors to manage instead of a uniform system across all labs and departments. Makes it feel like a very inequal and biased experience.
