Pros

- An incredible opportunity to shape the future of food security -- one of the world's most pressing humanitarian issues - Incredibly international and diverse -- every day at HQ, I encounter motivated, passionate colleagues from dozens of countries speaking in multiple languages. - The UN brand name comes with its own sense of accomplishment -- it will certainly be a valuable item to have on my resume moving forward - Work-life balance is far, far superior to my time in consulting - Tax-free salary!

Cons

- The bureaucracy of the organization can be literally suffocating at times. On the whole, attachment to the UN mandate and fundraising needs that do not promote rapid creativity and innovation is a dangerous path to irrelevance. - Reorganizations, staff position movements, etc. occur more often than they should. The organization's future structure isn't really clear. - Consultants aren't really treated with the same level of respect as permanent employees -- even if they're doing more meaningful work. Three-month contracts don't leave room for stability.
