Pros

The people I've worked directly with are damn smart. You soak up a lot through osmosis; you just get more knowledgeable just working with these folks and on tasks you need to accomplish. People are friendly and welcoming. You can just feel the love and pride everyone has for the company- we all bled purple through and through. Always.

Cons

Top management- like way at the top- have no idea what to do with the advantages they already have. Wasted Emerging Markets, wasted Mobile, wasted opportunities and people. Forced ranking led to lower morale not just for the subordinates but for the managers themselves who hated the process. Why, Yahoo!? Why?

Pros

Relatively easy to get things done for a company with such a long history. Certainly not "start up" like, but processes like resource allocation have less overhead than working at a company like Google. Pay was pretty good for the midwest. I hear they are currently pretty open to remote work. It's also not the hardest place to work.

Cons

Opportunities are limited in software engineering. Since Apollo took over, SE was viewed mostly under the lens of "what is the least we can invest here to get the job done". There used to be a really good office in Champaign with lots of very talented software engineers put together. That's gone now.
