Pros

$15 per hour, Health Care, working with youth

Cons

Unrealistic hours, if someone doesn't show for their shift you're expected to stay over if they can't find someone to cover. Staff looks the other way if one of their own harms a "troubled/unruly" youth. Has no regards for your at home life. WILL FIRE YOU, IF THEY DON'T LIKE YOU!

Pros

Supportive co-workers & supervisor. LOTS of training available and attendance is encouraged. National & regional conferences paid.

Cons

Not much ability to increase pay other than begging, which isn't always successful. Underpaid for many years.

Pros

Helping youth in need, providing youth with life-changing guidance and a safe haven while they are away from home. Watching youth grow to understand themselves and authority in a more positive manner.

Cons

- Often dealing with youth that should be in higher level placements or that should seek medical attention (psychiatric hospital placement/evaluations) due to needing more attention or having physical/mental outbursts, thus putting the employees at risk of harm. - Very difficult to have a set schedule with this job. Constantly bouncing between days and shifts makes it hard to plan accordingly for appointments and such. Management and supervisors seem to not care and do not seem to want to work to give you a set schedule. - The pay is simply too low for a care-giver role. Often seeking a second job to bring in another income, but cannot because it is impossible to have a set schedule with set days.
