Pros
In this market, it may be better than nothing but know what you're dealing with.
There's dramatic skill gaps between some workers with the same title, so know that you don't have to excel to work here.
They pick and choose who the rules apply to, so if you're well liked that would work in your favor.
If you wanna get grinded out by a company whos president is out playing golf all day, you are in the right place.
Cons
The owner definitely lacks empathy -- it shows & this business wasn't built by him. I highly doubt he's done anything substantive his entire life, as he appears to be unable to string together a sentence that has diction and grammar above the capacity of a sixth grader. If you are ever written up (highly personal or done to avoid any type of liability in anyway it benefits them), it'll be full of lies that are barely even understandable. Management shows aggression towards employees with threats of firing often. When I was there, they were constantly lying about trivial things when it was obvious they were lying.
They'll try to get you to do things by creating a fake scenario, as in person x called in and is complaining about a task assigned to you, like thats the only way to ask someone to drop what they are doing to action something immediately for them. This is gaslighting, but if they don't respect you (most of the lower support staff), they're going to do it. HR doesn't take any type of conflict seriously, I've seen undeniable bouts of racism here go unaddressed but they will not hesitate to start a paper trail.
The best people I worked with there quit quickly, & everyone that was left (except one person) expressed wanting to find another job to me, verbally. I made a complaint and they started a typical paper trail but that was an error on my behalf given all the above ^^^^
The real star of this company is in service management and I would be highly suspect if the rest of the staff doesn't agree. The person that handles client contact from key stakeholders in each business is losing his technical edge, although he has great experience. He got into the industry during the time where good microsoft cert = almost direct placement using that knowledge, so know that your path (person reading this) will likely be very different than his.
It's wonky because they genuinely think they operate a cut above other msps - etc, but they'll do something like use the wrong model of a security appliance they've been using/procuring and supporting for a long time and have a company's internet be so unusable during their business hours -- just losing revenue. Said client complained for an extended period of time prior and it was obvious their connections were degrading but it went unaddressed.I don't think that's really acceptable in this day and age as an MSP, but the companies don't really know but they are shelling out much $$$.
There's another client that is a media based company and they have no idea they were sold a prosumer networking infrastructure. They literally use bandwidth constantly for video calls, streaming, & have organization wide meetings, constantly moving large files across the internet. They pay quite a bit of money and they have no idea they basically spun up the most basic ubiquiti network, something an interested high schooler can do at home as a weekend project.
