Pros

The coworkers are nice, have flexible working hours, and are good for the WLB.

Cons

The code review system sucks and is pretty inefficient. It is difficult to work with someone in the company.

Thanks for your review! I'm glad that you found the work-life balance good- we work hard to maintain that culture. In order to focus on having a good WLB we do have strictly enforced code policies- 1. Ensuring our code base is maintainable long term with low or no touch requirements on the original programmer (so people can have flexible hours and so we can also go on leave without guilt) 2. Having fairly verbose self documenting code 3. Enforcing code styling that is consistent across each product. This is layered with goals that included rapid turnaround of bug fixes, feature requests and trying to maintain a release cadence that allowed customers to have access to new features as quickly as possible while minimising overtime. These policies do create friction as the goal is to catch all issues in the PR but mean that we aren't called in on weekends to fix bugs and most of the staff are able to balance their lives as they see fit. Our code review process is running correctly to our design but there are things we can improve. So, what are we doing to improve it? 1. We've been actively working to identify issues at design-time rather than after code is written. This seems like a no-brainer but we're only just getting to this now (better today than tomorrow)- We've had a long standing "code first" culture (right from the top) that we are trying to move away from. 2. We are slowly implementing a formal crawl, walk, run approach so that PRs are smaller, get stalled less and customers can play with "crawl" level features. 3. We are looking at policies so that all programmers are doing thorough reviews and balance that PR load across the team.
