Stepping stone, not a career.

Pros

- They work with great third parties to carry out their funerals and probate processes - The teams are really nice and work well together - Working from home

Cons

Nepotism -
Once a place of promise, this workplace has become a hub of favouritism. If you're not friends with the higher-ups, your future here looks bleak. A group in management strongly supports a particular type of employee, and this bias is very obvious in how they handle operations. Promotions and new roles are handed out without interviews, while deserving candidates have to beg for opportunities.
Jobs being assigned at the pub over drinks whilst others work away in the office, this was mainly within Operations. Just random announcements of people having new job titles.
 Salaries -
The most unbelievable thing happened when the COO, who is very privileged, publicly said they don't want to adjust salaries to match the current economic situation “I am against this decision”. This shattered the trust we had in the company and showed that our supposed leaders don't really care about the organisation they're supposed to guide and Farewill is no longer the culture loving company they once were.
 Hierarchy -
Unless you come from a rich background and have an education that fits their mould, you're treated as a low-level worker, just a faceless pawn. The management below the top level knows about the unfair favouritism happening here. They might pretend to give you some recognition, but it's tainted by favouritism.
 Company standards -
This company, once full of potential, has become a place where a bad drug culture thrives. The unpleasant smell of moral decline is present even in professional settings, a reminder of how far we've fallen. The terrible things I've seen continue, showing how low we've sunk. Most team socials and covid office parties would end in leadership level staff bringing in drugs, nowadays it usually ends up in someones house, sometimes even exec/board level. There is a reason they are No. 91 on the Hey Tempo list !

 Human resources team -
The idea of a "human resources team" is a joke, like a chatroom with no substance. When there's a real problem, all they do is provide empty "feedback." Even a big company like Argos takes claims of bullying seriously, but our company, which claims to value its culture, avoids responsibility, leaving victims to suffer in silence. Their constant company reviews every 6 months where people tell them their problems, just get ignored and another check box ticked to justify their salaries. Company structure - Seems this company hires when they need to, and makes people redundant after they mess up their finances, this has happened quite a few times and again nepotism plays a huge part to who leaves and who stays. There have been several restructures, seems they are trying for dear life to seem like a normal well structured company when they keep changing things except the people at the top, take the hint. Dismissals and transparency - Losing your role is a general fear at Farewill, people would randomly get made redundant over a period of time, seems strategic so they don’t do everyone at the same time to avoid a redundancy mass process, quite sneaky. We would ask in company meetings if there were anymore redundancies coming up, and no was the answer, the next day our Head of PR was out, followed by a few others shortly after. You just can’t trust them unless you’re in with their white educated crowd. There have been a few people from the exec team also disappear, but to find out that they were given tens of thousands of pounds to leave is just insane, whilst others were given short notice with a badly botched redundancy process. Company shares scheme - Seems when there was a redundancy process, people who the company feared would jump ship, were given large salary increases and other promised large shares. The salaries came a reality for some but the shares just slowly died off and the company refused to acknowledge any discussions of this sort. Also the shares process is quite horrid, seems if your manager likes you, they will get you more, if the company looks at a spreadsheet of who they employ along with their shares, they might start to see why they are looked at so negatively. Office affairs - Seems there have been a few office affairs which were quite inappropriate, married people seeing others and getting them ahead in the company ect Not very nice for the loyal ones !

Not Delivering Mission - Terrible Decision-Making and Politics

Pros

- Engaged, empathetic, and smart people working on the ground - Wonderful mission of simplifying very complex and confusing processes often at difficult times for people - Culture was great with interesting, light-hearted rituals like Passion Talks, Friday 5's, and Slack banter

Cons

- No accountability for disastrous decision making from the Exec and Leadership Teams. For example, not focusing on cultivating strong Product leadership, attempting to "win" the Funerals Market with PPC only, and ignoring the needs that would make the Sales & Ops teams successful - Very political at the top: members of Leadership Team promoted to Exec Team without any role responsibilities, prior knowledge, nor criteria for selection - The departures of the COO and CTO in mid-2021 sparked a steep decline in the quality of decision-making. Most decisions since have been fairly blatant power grabs, NOT mission-led, market-led, or even data-led - It's clear the other founding Exec members were the foundation for the CEO, and without them he is flailing, leading to a chaotic environment that has led to mass burnout

I've never seen a company so mismanaged

Pros

Some really great people Passion talks

Cons

Managers are bullies who keep working people in customer-facing roles like Ops and Sales to the max. Long hours, followed by the constant change in responsibilities and increasing workload without any compensation. And no, it's not the fast-paced scale-up environment they keep bringing up, it's bad management. Very target driven. The management team offers no support in reaching said targets. With the constant change of processes, they expect you to keep working hard for their business, but they don't provide any tools. If you dare to question anything they will dismiss you and label you problematic. You must follow the leadership team BLINDLY and be enthusiastic about everything No support. If you are struggling with work or mental health, you're on your own. No HR function Dishonest. They claim to be a growing company, but they have just let ten people go. The leadership has no idea what they are doing. Their mission to "change the way the world deals with death" turned out to be an illusion. They are money-driven and inexperienced They are elitists. Promotions within my team depended on who's friends with the manager. The other reviews about nepotism and random promotions are pretty accurate No diversity
