Stressed Me Out Beyond Belief

Pros

AMAZING people working at this company, some of the most dedicated individuals that I have encountered in my career. There is an "one team, one dream" mentality that truly resonates throughout the whole company. Large opportunity to learn new skills (primarily due to the lack of adequate staffing of roles & you get to do of tasks outside of your job description). Cool place for an entry point into tech. IF (& only if ) you are remote, there is an OK work-life balance. Not much travel involved and no weekend work. Benefits were OK and started immediately.

Cons

Lack of diversity is SHOCKING for a company that provides a product for underserved populations, you'd think such a company would be dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion. Senior leadership of color is near non-existent. Rapidly changing business priorities with poor strategy and rollout will leave your head spinning. Senior leaders will look to you to help plan & develop the strategy for their company/product initiatives. Slowly shifting back to in-office work while there is still a large portion of the company that works remotely. On-site employees are required to be in office 4 days/week with attendance checks being conducted regularly. People rapidly jumping ship...teams are overworked because of lack of capacity. Teams are being reconfigured to cover tasks of other teams because the people that originally do the tasks QUIT.

Pros

I loved the product and the teams I worked directly with. Dogs and food in the office.

Cons

I experienced the worst discrimination of my career at this job - direct discrimination regarding my gender presentation and disability. Like others have said, leadership was insulated and punished people who voiced critical feedback. Leadership has also shown itself willing to sell the company’s mission and values up the river to get a deal, and senior leadership doesn’t embody those values internally. We built an entire feature to allow a client to hide essential programs from the people they serve.

Pros

My coworkers are phenomenal. Most of the people truly care about making a difference and helping people, which is evident in their work. People are always willing to help you, no matter what team you're on. The office perks (food, gym, cold brew on tap) are nice. A dog-friendly office provides a lot of fun distractions from the monotony of the work day.

Cons

Where to start? Senior management is bogus. Management actively refuses to listen to the pleas of their employees. They make decisions that go against employee's health and safety, then attempt to spin it as "for [their] own mental health." There is no transparency amongst leadership, despite claiming it as a pinnacle of the company. Asking clarifying questions in public around the decisions of management causes get people to get reprimanded or worse, lose their job. Imagine a company full of tech bros, all patting themselves on the back for "making a difference" while actively stepping on, silencing, and firing the people that got them there. The pay is abysmal for being located in the most expensive city in America. The CEO spends more time on Glassdoor than evaluating his own culpability in employee morale.
