Learned a lot but received little help
Pros
I learned a lot about IULs. It was a nice opportunity to get into the insurance industry and learn about how awful 401ks are. Mind you every FFS office and team is different. I was in the Torrance and Cerritos branches where they held presentations at schools every week.
Cons
Didn't receive any real help about how to be a salesman, because that's what you really are. They kept saying to study the script and the script works, when it's really long, complex, and boring. If the script worked, why did so many talented, experienced, charismatic people constantly leave? Also the presenters and people who set up the appointments at the school, cherry picked the leads and my colleagues and I were constantly having to present to under qualified people who weren't interested and couldn't afford anything. Again, you were blamed and the commissions were so low. You start at 40% and then you have to split it with the opener, so it's really 20%. There are even better IULs out there with higher commissions too. And you shouldn't have to pay to join.
