Bleeding Edge Tech, Awesome Team, Amazing Mission

Pros

The team is amazing. Everyone's genuine down to earth and collaborative. It is amazing to work with a group of people who are completely selfless and all want to see Gem succeed and does what it takes to get the job done. Its a group of people where I want to spend my free time with outside of normal work hours. The tech is really challenging. We are inventing or using extremely nascent technologies to achieve functionality yet to exist at large scale. It makes it incredibly challenging every day and the continual emergence and evolution of such nascent technologies requires constant learning. Finally the office environment is super relaxed and comfortable. It's hard to complain about anything when you are two blocks away from the beach! We work hard and we play hard!

Cons

The biggest challenge in working here is building with nascent technology. The tech has not matured to have features that we can leverage, the documentation gets out of date, examples you may find are stale and so you have to dive deep into the source to figure it out. So if you are not into problem solving and diving deep in a tech stack then this isn't the place for you. If you really love to be on the bleeding edge of emerging tech then come apply! Also, as an early stage company, we are small and so you have to establish process and adjust as needed. So don't apply if you are looking for a place with a lot of structure and a ridged/established way of doing things. Be prepared to take on a lot of freedom and a lot of responsibility immediately.

The Reason Tech Is The Best Place To Work

Pros

This company encourages radical thinking and an open culture. It's not uncommon for someone from marketing to be playing a game of pool with a back end engineer only to jog off to jot down a new idea. Collaborative, innovative, open and working on the bleeding edge of technology? Yes please.

Cons

The commute is sometimes tough if you do not live on the Westside. Great part is that Venice is a cool neighborhood.

Pros

The team is collaborative and tight knit. It's a small company, and everyone is a self starter, so there's a lot of trust and autonomy. The new office space is amazing - 3 story artsy warehouse-meets-luxury-home a block from the Venice Beach boardwalk. There's a lot of excitement in the office about the product and customers, so everyone is working very hard, but we also find ourselves staying in the office to just chat and play games.

Cons

More processes need to be put in place
