Toxic Work Environment

Recommend

Business outlook

Pros

Location, 35 hours per week

Cons

Toxic work environment where there is no opportunity to grow and develop. Significant lack of progressive thinking, tools and systems. Outdated top management positional authority style that stifles employee growth and development. There needs to be change. Halton is able to retain long term employees who are hostage to the OMERS pension plan. Stop hiding behind your frosted, locked glass office and find out what’s really going on. No meaningful change will ever happen with management surrounding themselves with the same set people with no new thinking

Pros

Low level staff and middle management are great people

Cons

Pay. Salaries not competitive with similar sized municipalities, especially given the cost of living in the Region

Terrible and Toxic Place to Work!

Pros

Salary (decent but not great), benefits (adequate) , close to home, OMERS Pension Plan, 35-hr work week. That's about it.

Cons

The work environment is absolutely toxic. Every department and individual sections within departments seem to be looking out for themselves instead of working together and doing what is best for the organization. Leadership and long term visioning are pretty much non existent. It's all about putting out the latest 'fire' (often caused due to lack of foresight and long term visioning). There is no clear delineation of staff roles based on expertise which results in a free-for-all of poor quality work. Exceptional performers and subject area experts are ignored and a lot of unqualified staff are assigned key projects instead. This place is full of ego maniacs, bullying, nepotism and empire building as all the other reviews state.
