Pros

Friendly students, qualified and friendly faculty

Cons

Poor salary, poor benefits, impossible tenure requirements ($1 million in external funding across all sciences/mathematics, $250k across the humanities), no codified procedures, impossible to get questions answered, constant overloads, poor facilities and resources (mold, leaks, 90 degree temperatures in offices)

Pros

It's a job. Nothing more positive to say about it.

Cons

Some of the most unprofessional people with whom I have ever worked, yet they seemed to have convinced themselves that by calling everyone Mr./Ms./Dr. that *that* somehow makes them professional. The buildings are full of mold, asbestos, and who knows what else so be prepared to start having upper respiratory problems if you accept a position there. The pay is low, about as low as morale. Overall, not a very satisfying experience.

Pros

People are nice to each other (as employees, not to the students!). It might be due to the fact that they all connect with each other as they are all unhappy with work environment :)

Cons

Where to start....well, of course pay- terrible pay to compare to other universities in Hampton Roads area. Do not count on benefits. They will NOT show you them until they hire you. The least expensive plan they offer will cost you for family of 3 around $800. The retirement, vacation leave not so great and if you work under grants, it's even worse. The administration is stuck in time....more like 20 years ago and they are not willing to do any changes....from employee policy, technology etc.....there is only paper trail for all the documents so you better keep copy everything you send out! If you are already hired, use this time to add to your resume, spply for new job and....RUN!!!!! Do not get comfortable there unless you don't want to move in your career. I could write books about this place but it is not even worth it.
