Pros

- the team is definitely a big plus, if not the only one. People are dedicated and genuinely kind, in every department. Sadly this doesn't counterbalance everything you will have to endure from Senior management from both London and New-York.

Cons

Prepare to get all the drawbacks of working for a startup without the benefits: - Micromanagement is king there. Hope you like having to send a message every day on a special channel in Slack when you arrive at the office in the morning, so they can check if you were there on time. - Do not expect flexible working AT ALL - they are the kind of company that would ask their employees to come work at the office, even if there was a break in the night before. They'd rather see you work all packed in a small meeting room and on a small table with all your colleagues rather than allowing WFH. - Lack of transparency - passive-aggressive communication style is something you will need to get used to - This is not a place where you will be heard. You will not have the space to propose new ideas, as everything has already been decided by the CEO. Many of the senior management (and employees) are scared of him, so don't expect your manager to support you when the CEO decides to get his head into your work and dictate you what you need to do. You’ll feel like a slave. - Don't expect to get a promotion if you don't become friends with the CEO, which is the most toxic person I’ve ever dealt with. He’s unable to delegate any part of the business, resulting in having to deal with his toxic behaviour, and he will not trust you with the work you’ve been hired for until you can show that you are a docile little dog who will blindly do as asked. This is the case for Product, Design, Commercial teams at least. - And don’t expect to report anything to HR, there are no HR people. You’ll be by yourself. I feel so much better since I left this toxic environment, I wouldn't wish this to anyone. Not a good place if you want to care for your mental health.

Hello, thank you so much for your feedback! I’m really sorry you had such an unpleasant experience working at Hero. I joined early last year to create our HR department, which as a young business, we didn’t have before. I understand you’re no longer an employee here, but if you think it would help, I’d love to set up some time to chat so you could share your perspective.

Pros

Weren't any, to be honest

Cons

The founder is a micro manager, rather than focussing on the product, he dictates what you should do and believes that 'brand experience' tops all. Prior to covid did not believe in flexible working, too strict on policies, no compassion whatsoever and believes he is the next Steve Jobs.

Hello, as always, thank you for your feedback. We’re not perfect but we all, including our founder, go out of our way to listen as much as we talk and to adapt as the industry evolves. We’re proud to have recently announced a Work From Anywhere policy allowing freedom and flexibility for our global team, even as covid concerns start to dissipate. I know you’re no longer a current employee, but if you would be willing to, I’d love to grab some time to chat and hear more of your thoughts.

Pros

Cool product and dedicated team

Cons

People will stab you in the back any chance they get. Zero communication on goal setting or expectations. You’re literally not allowed to say you don’t know to a question or they think you aren’t prepared. 1 month in after working 14 hour days you’re supposed to be an expert. There is no room for error. Horrible

Hello, as always, thank you for your feedback. If you're open to talking and working through your cons list, grab some time for a coffee chat with HR or your manager, whoever you feel most comfortable with, so we can work through the issues and do our best to create a plan to remedy. We don't have it all figured out, and when we do, we don't always get it right. So, your feedback and engagement is important to help us align and work on issues like expectation setting and communication. Looking forward to chatting with you!
