There were three layoff rounds, in all of them they knew who they were going to let go weeks in advance but decided not to tell them. Only on that very day the affected employees lost access to all the internal tools including email and that is how they found out they were fired.
It was so on the bad taste; you'd always be afraid that you'd be the next to be eliminated. They also lured employees from other companies to join, people that had steady jobs, and they brought them in just to fire them couple months down the line.
Also, there is no real plan or strategy, you'd be working on a certain project for a month, then suddenly, without finishing, you'd be reassigned to a new one, you never know what the ultimate goal is.
