Pros

- really amazing coworkers you can commiserate with - their pto is great

Cons

- horrible pay (especially for those who work the hardest) - upper management always on vacation, do absolutely no work but are paid 6 figures (you can Google it) - revolving door of people - people rarely stay for more than a year - they throw out lots of donated items / sell them as scrap instead of giving to their clients - major lack of diversity in upper management when i was there - treat their employees w little to no respect, often speak down to employees they deem unimportant - the only raises or upward mobility i saw was due to someone quitting and them needing to fill the position quickly - i could go on, but trust me when i say don’t work here

Pros

The few opportunities to engage with different community groups who utilize HW for services or see it as an informational/educational safe space were rewarding. Also, getting to work with volunteers who were motivated by the overall cause was inspiring.

Cons

No genuine connection to the mission of the company. Overworked and underpaid without the resources to keep up with work demands. Upper management would rather work you into the ground and then replace you than make any meaningful changes that would make the workplace better. Communication with them was dismissed and immediately shut down.

Pros

Wonderful coworkers, actually helping clients, working in the field and office. Holiday parties. Meetings and forums. Building connections with personnel from other non profits and agencies

Cons

Caseloads, confrontational coworkers with past drug history that does not know how to conduct themselves in a work environment, directors that gossip all day, No open door policy. Be expected to hear exactly what you told the boss or what the boss said about you on any given day. policies that changes every day, people who get away with things all the time and are praised and covered. HR does a horibble job. High turnover rate in Bronx & Brooklyn offices. Ive worked in both offices... terrible experience at both especially at Bronx location.
