Pros

None come to mind. It was a paycheck. Ummm...you could park close to the building. When the ceilings leaked, they put garbage cans out to catch the water.

Cons

Too many to list. Small company controlled by a few cliques. If you are in one of the cliques, you are untouchable, and unaccountable. HR knows this and warns management, but upper management is also involved, so it continues. If not, watch out. A lot of backstabbing. No training. If you are on one team you can walk around and talk about hockey and golf all day, then go on breaks. Some teams work from home most of the time, while others teams are not allowed to. Were promised bonuses in the hiring processes, but never saw or heard of a bonus while I worked there.

Pros

Honestly it's really hard to find a pro. I guess flexible work hours and if you live out of state you can work from home. Standard benefits package for 2000 maybe even earlier than that. If you want to roll the dice with your healthcare you can roll the dice with a HSA, great if you don't have kids. We have a pull down projector screen! Casual attire. No seriously we can wear shorts most of the time. We have WYSE terminals so no desktops or laptops here. Unless your in technology then you get whatever you want. Should have waited for one of those jobs.

Cons

Archaic. May be fast to deliver to our clients but slow to understand the needs of employees. C-Level and Management lack vision. Unrealistic timelines. Work is quoted but times are trimmed considerable and work remains the same. Old slow computers. Everywhere! Including Michigan and Huron, Training meeting rooms where I spend many meetings. We have stacking chairs from 1970 I guess... I have heard the men’s bathroom is stinky most of the time. Nice place for our clients to use when they visit. NOT. Wifi is horrible. Cell service is next to nothing. We have a help desk ticketing system for our clients, time tracking for us, internal work item system for us to use that doesn't connect to the help desk system. oh and we have Sharepoint, but that never seems to work. We use Microsoft Teams and used to use Yammer but finding stuff is nearly, if not, impossible. We write specs in Word and keep track of data in spreadsheets. We used to have a database but they couldn't get it to work and the Manager rather than investing in that decided Word documents work better for tracking historical content. They track what sites you visit on the web and disallow many of them. They treat us like children. There are signs everywhere. Including the employee entrance, copiers, whiteboards, wall switches. telling you what to do or not do. We have a drain that goes from the IT room to the sink in the kitchen from what I have been told. Yes, it just drips there all day long and its ugly (don't drink the water from this) Free coffee and tea, but you have to buy your own soda. Cold water fountain is often warm. Will likely never advance in job title here as someone above you would have to leave, even though we do the same thing. No Directors, AVPs, SVPs just VPs and managers with a ton of people under them. Titles often don’t coincide with the actual work. So a Sr. something is a manager but doesn’t have manager in their title. Dingy cubes and offices. Except for the board room. Old technology everywhere. Can't use color printers even though we have a bunch of them. We have extremely slow printers and one very fast copier but we can't print to it. Stingy use of money. No bonus, just ESOP. Well folks, ESOP isn't everything. ESOP drives adoption of just about everything. Have to be here 2 years just to get into ESOP. 401K is delayed on employment too, as is Short term disability. They actually recommended Aflac as a way to cover myself. Been working in the industry for over 10 years and I get 10 days of vacation. I found out I should have asked for 15. My mistake. Can't put pop tarts in the toaster only messy poppy seed bagels are allowed (but you have to clean the tray after each use according to the sign) Can't put soda in the freezer. Can't have personal packages sent to the office (so that they don't get stolen on your doorstep) Don't leave anything in the fridge it will get thrown out. Complaints sent to staff about Spit in the kitchen sink and if we don’t stop we wont have sinks anymore. Thanks mom. HR apparently runs the place and the VP's can't make decisions for their own department without running it past HR. No one listens to you. 30 year old company thinks in 30 year old ways. Outdated technology. Works for our Delivery and our clients but doesn't work for me as a developer. I struggle to find how this is going to help me in my future. The code I write is proprietary and non transferrable to future opportunities elsewhere.
