Great team, poor company

Pros

The people you work day to day with are great! I felt like I could rely on my teammates for support & assistance when needed. There is a sense of camaraderie in the newsroom that I really enjoyed. Compensation and benefits are really good for the area as well!

Cons

Was repeatedly asked to cancel vacations to cover for other people. They even requested I cancel a hotel I'd book for the vacation. Was once told that I wasn't be asked to work my days off, I was being told I had to, even though I had family in town who'd travelled to come visit me. I also had to fight for a day off when I had a family member die. Overall be ok not having a personal life in order to work here.

Pros

I wish I could think of anything.

Cons

The antiquated software that is heavily encouraged for you to use no matter how many bugs they insist are fine and just work around. The cliquey atmosphere is pervasive and inescapable. If you aren't cut from the same cloth, you might as well be dirty laundry. Qualifications and certifications gained in the hopes of advancement or raises are completely ignored. Overworked and underappreciated is the main take away from this place and I will not miss it for a single second when I'm gone.
