Pros

Great opportunity for someone who is either new to the industry or wants a stable position as a code monkey. As a developer, you will learn about eCommerce development, basic seo strategies, etc. Entire team is dedicated to making every project a success. Company has proven to deliver sizable projects with very tight deadlines, with complex problems. Upper management utterly committed to the success of the company.

Cons

Constant constructive criticism not balanced with any positive reinforcements. Culture is entirely based on your ability to maximize revenue for the company through your work hours. As a developer, you will not learn any of the latest frameworks / methods. The system is built on a proprietary platform that utilizes their own tagging language. Upper management is stretched too thin with responsibilities and high expectations. Any guidance / directions given by Upper Management seems like a moving target.

Pros

Casual work environment, free coffee, decent web-based platform.

Cons

Struggling business that has suffered from significant lay-offs over the last year (2016-17). It's not a place you expect to work at long term, very few do. It might be a good 6-24 month opportunity for someone looking for experience. I just can't sit here and honestly recommend Kalio as a place to work, outside of the previous caveat.

Pros

- Fully stocked fridge, including free coffee, pop and snacks. - Personal and professional milestone celebrations. - Very little supervision; very flexible. - Shift flexibility. - Nice work/life balance. - Motorized stand-up desks. - Generous amount of starting PTO. - Monthly potlucks.

Cons

- Proprietary code! Cannot stress how awful this is as a developer. - No work-from-home. - Steep learning curve. - eCommerce platform is not user-friendly or intuitive. - No version control. - No modern workflow. - Developers are expected to talk regularly with clients. - Main shareholder thinks the employees are, "entitled". - Assumes everyone is available 24/7. - Proprietary code (twice, I know). - Layoffs - Pay freezes This was the best job I've to date until the layoffs started. They laid off four people within a month and a half; three of which were key members. They continue to outsource their work instead of cutting unnecessary costs to keep current employees. Since the layoffs, the atmosphere has changed significantly. Most employees are looking or have left, including those that have been there for many many years. Kalio does not seem to care about acquiring new clients after losing a few this past year. A lot clients have expressed their unhappiness towards Kalio regarding the turn around time on requests and projects. Many of these requests have been requested by management to be completed after hours in order to get them done with no compensation. With all that said, I really did enjoy my time at Kalio and saw myself working there for many years. Unfortunately, that time was cut short and I felt like I needed to move on both technically and financially. It is going downhill quick and it's mostly due to their main shareholder making all the calls.
