Pros
A paycheck every two weeks. You get to defraud some big companies.
Cons
You'll sacrifice your soul. The lab has a 10 year history of fraudulent Pb in Children's products testing (insufficient detection limits), RoHS testing (insufficient detection limits), fuel testing (the worst example is holding samples up to a computer monitor and making up ASTM D1500 results), aviation wear debris alloy ID,

Pros
Project variety allows employees to develop broad materials science / chemistry experience. There is freedom to pursue new projects/clients.
Cons
Management takes some serious convincing in order to make necessary changes. Freedom goes both ways, many employees use their freedom to be lazy which is rough at a small company.
