Pros

Any pro is overshadowed by the huge negatives.

Cons

Administration hides downtown as they dictate to branch managers policies they refuse to put in writing (we were told NOT to discuss matter by email or internal chat due to open records rule) because administrators know policies violate fundamental freedom of access. No displays featuring LGBTQ+, RACE, POLITICS or RELIGIOUS subjects. We were told "If we don't hide what is in our stacks, then the Commissioners will interfere with what books we are allowed to purchase." The following positions have left the system within the last 16 months - Assistant Director, 3 District Managers, 5 Branch Managers (in a 13 branch system), multiple librarians, unknown number of Associate/Assistant Librarians, District level Youth Services Coordinator, ILL supervisor, Digital Services Manager, Fiscal Manager and others. The talent bleed is real. Current administration is wasting tax dollars and opportunity by ignoring their own policies and hiding behind "fear of standing up for equity and inclusion". You will experience no communication from administration unless you question policy, then the communication will be in the form of reprimand.

Pros

Good County benefits, insurance and paid time off (not so much with the pay unless you are a favorite of management).

Cons

Culture of No Favoritism at Library Administration Not forward thinking As other reviewers have stated, this library system does not follow the ALA Bill of Rights or values. They answer to a very conservative, right wing Board of County Commissioners. Branches have been told they are not to have any LGBTQ displays. They don’t support minorities either in serving the public, or in their hiring practices. There is nepotism in the Library Administrations offices. County HR does nothing about the fact that there is a couple in a long-term relationship, both promoted to upper level management working together. Favoritism among friends is obvious and demoralizing to branch staff. There are lots of politics. The overall feeling is that it is a culture of no. Although they state they are a ‘forward thinking’ system they do not show this at all. Any new ideas are usually shot down or made to be so difficult to justify (by certain Admin staff) that many librarians have just given up.

Pros

Lee County offers great benefits.

Cons

They do not support the ALA Bill of Rights, do not support minorities or minority groups, Library Administration supports nepotism (2 Library Admins are in a relationship and HR does not do anything), Library Administration changes policies with documentation, Library Administration refuses to go to branches. There have been numerous accounts of retaliation.
