Cyclical Layoffs

Pros

Great idea and technology with lots of growth potential into new markets.

Cons

Lily AI has had more layoffs than shipped products or product features. This alone is the biggest red flag for anyone considering working here. The strategy is to hire really talented individuals, let them set up processes and correct the ship, and then lay everyone off and send the jobs overseas for less.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We truly appreciate your insights and candor. We are glad to hear that you see the potential in our technology and the opportunities for growth into new markets. Your recognition of our ideas and their potential impact is encouraging. We understand your perspectives on restructuring and product development. It is never an easy decision to make changes that affect our team, and we deeply regret the impact these decisions have on our employees. Your advice to management is noted and shared. Poor business decisions leading to mistreatment of high quality employees

Pros

Product is strong with highly accurate machine learning models and positive feedback from customers. Certainly an industry leader in that sense.

Cons

One of the cofounders creates private Slack channels and calendar events to pressure employees into attending weekend and late night meetings. This would be understandable if the employees asked to work weekends and late nights were VPs or higher, but they are low leveled IC's who have not had a raise in over a year. There is no work-life balance or empathy despite what the company website says. I have worked for many startups and none of them had such extreme working hours. There are several current employees who are waiting for the economy to improve so they can leave this company for a better opportunity. Current employees are all compassionate people who deserve better, they're highly intelligent as well. Leadership cannot get out of their own way. They keep trying to cover multiple roles within the company themselves to save money. Employees tell them what is needed and they are still ignored, leadership insists they know what's best when the majority of the time, they don't understand the domain the ICs work in and mislead employees as a result. Employees become overworked and exhausted because leadership eventually goes in the direction the ICs originally recommended after months of trial and error. A very slow moving startup without agility but full of ego. Business seems to be permanently running on empty despite new rounds of funding and a substantial number of customers. Most departments have been short staffed for years and although employees beg for more teammates to help reduce their workload, they are told there is no money to hire more employees. Don't fall for promises of becoming a people leader if you decide to be employed at this company. They likely will not hire you a team as promised and you will become an IC with an inflated job title. No career growth because they are perpetually in survival mode. Don't fall for any promises of promotions or salary increases. They have not done a salary increase for over 12 months now.

While we certainly appreciate your positive advocacy of our platform and its effectiveness (thank you!), we have to admit that your extended feedback pains us to read because we strive for everyone to be both challenged and rewarded. At Lily, it is very important to us to build a positive culture where everyone is excited to support one another and our customers, and we are sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy your experience at Lily AI. Work/Life balance, fair and competitive compensation packages, and ample opportunities for career growth are certainly critical to the success of any business and we take your feedback very seriously on these important topics. As an example of one recent action we have taken is that we have appointed a Chief Operating Officer to help us scale operations and enhance all areas of the business to ensure team member wellness and satisfaction while we are in this stage of accelerated, fast-paced growth and market interest. Drawing from the experience you’ve shared here, we will continue to re-evaluate how we can best support the teams as they share in our growth journey. Thank you for taking the time to share your perspectives and good luck to you as you pursue your next adventure.

Pros

-Flexible work schedule. Currently work is also remote making it easier. If you communicate your needs to your higher ups, they are willing to work with your schedule. This is essential for parents and those doing distance learning. -Benefits (standard package that is customizable) that includes vision and dental. -A program that provides assistance for issues such as counseling, legal advice, financial consultation and work/life referrals. -I have had the opportunity to work with some individuals that are great leaders.

Cons

-Pay is not competitive for the Bay Area. In addition, there is no transparency with pay. Since there are no pay brackets with each position, you may have employees paid different rates for the same role. By having clear distinct pay brackets with each tier of position, this would foster a more collaborative and productive environment. This would also ensure that people are being paid a comparable rate as co workers in their work tier -Communication. While each team may have a better understanding of their own communication style, there is often miscommunications across teams. With so many different communication styles, more work needs to be done to set the standard as to the best way to communicate a shift in plans or schedule. This includes planning for projects - Organizational structure needs to be improved. -Company culture still needs to be further explored and defined.
