Pros

Some good people still remain.

Cons

I was proud to be part of a company that was going places, made a real effort to service customers properly and had an environment where everyone mucked in and helped each other. After a buyout from private equity a couple of years ago, things started to change. I kind of expected this, the company had been very successful, but it still felt like a startup, so I knew it needed to grow up a bit. But whats happened is shameful. The original founders left and the new CEO replaced the whole Exec team with people he knew, mainly from his old company and it was clear early on that many of these people were only here because they are loyal to him and not because they know how to do their job. There was a company meeting a while ago where he basically stood up in front of us and told people that he didn’t care about the past and we either do things his way or “get off the train”. Anyone who criticised or suggested alternative solutions was fired and we have ended up with a culture where people are too afraid to say what they think, provide valid input or even point out problems for fear of losing their job. Lots of talent has since left the company and much money has been spent putting in more and more directors and staff loyal to the CEO as well as interim contractors. Some of the new team were so bad it was a joke, people laughed because it was obvious they didn’t know what on earth they were doing and we all thought it would become clear and they would be exposed, but they are still here and only when the rumours started to circulate that their relationship with the CEO was more than just business did it make sense why they are still around. A new office was opened in Newcastle and this is where the management team hide away behind closed doors. Getting most of them to spend anytime working alongside the lowly employees seems to be impossible and they simply don’t want to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in. They spend more time getting ready for the board meeting when the investors come in than running the company. I don’t know of a single colleague that isn’t either about to hand their notice in or isn't actively looking for another job. The whole environment has become toxic and it’s clear to most of us that the company is in trouble, customers are complaining all the time and we seem to be losing them in large numbers and the Exec team just don’t care. Nobody seems to know where we are trying to go or how we are trying to get there and worst of all, there is no one to talk to about all this (no one trusts HR) so I will be one of the next wave of people to throw in the towel and get out while I can. I used to really enjoy coming to work, but now I just “do my time” and get out I quickly as possible. Finally, it must be obvious to anyone with a brain that the first few reviews (written very close together with the normal buzzwords) are fake, if you look at the reviews for the old company name (Metronet UK) you can see the same fake reviews, but you can also see the overwhelming number of reviews that reflects my opinion. Read them and decide for yourself.

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to write your review. You’re right in stating that we have some good people in our business – we’re very proud of the colleagues we work with. Your feedback matters and what you say concerns us, especially your comments around colleagues feeling too afraid to say what they think. We know that in all businesses there will be some colleagues who are confident sharing their views and opinions and some that aren’t so confident too. We’ve been working hard over the last few months to ensure that we create as many channels as possible for our colleagues to share views, ideas and suggestions; the introduction of our people representative’s is just one example. Our Newcastle office is a working, open plan and customer-facing office with the majority of colleagues sitting in our sales function. The Executive leadership team ensures that it splits its time across all our locations including London, Manchester and Newcastle. We notice that you’re a current employee of ours, by the way you’ve identified yourself online and its disappointing for us to hear your experience we appreciate your feedback. We’re concerned that you feel there is no-one in the business you can talk to about how you feel including the People Team. The People Team continue to support colleagues across our business and are trusted amongst colleagues . We would encourage you to speak with one of the team if you can.

Pros

•Great people •Flexible start times •Hour long lunch break •Frequent screen breaks

Cons

•No progression - even after slaving away at underpaid salary packages compared to the industry •Management only book smart - not practical and no common sense •Management are not managing their teams instead they are acting as data analysts for the private equity overlords •Shocking high staff turnover •Lack of communication between individuals in the same team and also between different teams •Good employees are treated like sheep in a slaughter house - shot and put down with no remorse •Tears of employees are not enough to show what pressure they are put under - tears caused by their own line management •People are wrongly promoted - people are not promoted on their ability or performance instead promotions are distributed by irrelevant factors such as how long they have been at the company •No pay packages offered which are fair and in line with industry standard - instead they compare pay packages demographically but they fail to understand that in the location of their HQ (Manchester) property prices start at £100K compared to £300K starting in London - how are the employees in London ever to jump on the property ladder living on Manchester wages •London Support team is skeletal or pretty much non existent as so many support team members have left - London customers complain that the Manchester support team do not have a clue about the they are doing and are not able to provide support due to their unfamiliarity with the London network •The transition of first line support from London to Manchester caused nothing but delays as we were bombarded with Manchester support team calling us for help even though we were not the support team nor were we trained to handle support tickets.

Pros

A small number of highly skilled people are a joy to work with

Cons

A now highly toxic atmosphere that is the result of rush acquisitions and mergers with no thought or planning. Most departments are run like tin-pot dictatorships that refuse to work together for a common goal, resulting in consistent blame-gaming between departments and for the most part completely incompetent middle managers desperately trying to impress upper management to avoid further scrutiny of their poor quality of work (even to the extent of falsifying performance figures). Any department performance deemed as "poor" in the eyes of upper management results in an immediate witch-hunt and unwillingness to understand the processes they enforce. Any members of staff that attempt to raise concerns about operational issues (or any issue within the company for that matter) is immediately branded as "defeatist" by management, and are no longer included in projects or further advice sought of them. It is impossible to be a realist, and try to tell people how it is, management only hear what they want to hear. Because of all of these things, there is a mass hemorrhage of staff whop are highly skilled, and highly knowledge of their respective businesses and departments. Instead of replacing these individuals, more management staff are parachuted in from industries unrelated to this industry, and have little to no positive input to day-to-day running of the business. The customer experience has only suffered from this, with finance staff, account managers, and technical staff all leaving or being pushed out of the business. Customers now cannot reliably query billing, place new orders with an account manager that has a prior relationship, or raise technical issues with engineers familiar with often bespoke technical setups or past issues. Staff generally are of low morale, but when this issue is raised with management, staff are told to "take a closer look at yourselves" rather than actually find the root cause of low morale. Aside from this, pay reviews are non-existent and the question is actively dodged when raised with management (In keeping with rumors of cash-flow issues). Different members of staff are on different contracts, resulting in different holiday allowances, different pay scales, and different benefits (not that any real benefits exist). There are no opportunities for career progression, nor are there any training or development packages. The company I worked for prior to the acquisition was the opposite of all of the above.
