Pros

Every client they have will be interested in working with you after you leave. MKG serves as the (useless) middle-man.

Cons

It’s one of those companies where the people leading the teams somehow just ended up in those positions. Zero mentorship. Plenty of bureaucracy. But that’s every small agency, right? Once you tell yourself that those are issues you can tolerate, you’ll start noticing MKG’s race problem. Diversity equates to using Black, brown and queer faces for content and advertisements — not as valuable additions to their staff. Office politics consists of: White co-workers using cultural slang and misgendering you to death. They typically hire younger, 20-somethings who desperately need the job to survive in NY or LA. Those same people are burnt out and overwhelmed but don’t know where else to go. It’s a dead end for those seeking a places committed to mentoring and developing executives, where there is a strong sense of loyalty on both sides and a culture that fosters career development and growth. Try another agency.

Pros

Nice office, snacks and beverages in the kitchen.

Cons

The LA office is staffed by a cliquey girls club composed of adult women that speak like teenage valley girls and twirl their hair, roll their eyes and stare into the distance when they speak at a meeting. Most have only a few years of narrow experience in one aspect of the field they work in, but throw out ad and marketing jargon to try and sound knowledgeable, but in reality have very little concept of 3D design, fabrication and production. All the designers are freelancers so there’s a frequent turnover, and when an experienced designer brings up an issue, they’re met with dismissive, often condescending responses. It takes twice as many people as it should to complete any project because of the time managers spend chasing each other to needless meetings. Parking is virtually non-existent and expensive

Pros

Honestly, if you're a young college student looking for something "impressive" to put on your resume, the internship is for you. The work the interns are given is very basic. I guess you'll learn the ropes and meet some quirky people. The work environment is very relaxed and you'll get to go to some events. I had a strong background, so the work was mindnumbingly dull for me. Also, my role wasn't what I was told it was going to be.

Cons

First, a lot of the people feel quirky for the sake of being quirky. Think of New Girl and imagine an office full of people like that. It gets old after about a week. For me, it was all flash and no substance. I could imagine a TMZ style show being made by the company. It just flat out was not for me culturally, in all honesty. The second thing, the CEO is definitely a diva. Walked by him a bunch of times, thought he was a cool guy based on MKG's videos and what I was told by employees, but the guy wouldn't acknowledge my existence (or any intern's existence). There was an office event once and he was standing right next to the table of interns and he didn't glance at us once. Mind you, there's about 50 employees, including about 8 interns. To compare, I was previously with a global communications corporation, and the 90-year-old CEO interacted with all of us at events, learned our names and backgrounds, and even made time for interns to meet him personally and pick his brain. (There were also about 22 interns). Again, the work I was told I was going to be doing wasn't what the reality was. At all. I was really disappointed by this. Between this, an office full of Zoe Deschanels, and the beyond arrogant CEO, it was a nightmare for me. Case in point, 3 of us once carried stuff to the CEO's apartment and changed the batteries in his smoke alarm. So, I had been inside his apartment and fixed his appliances but never the met the guy despite being around him often. Like, what?
