Pros

I used to love coming to work every day. Like REALLY love coming to work. My coworkers felt like a second family and my managers did too. The job was fun and everyone looked out for each other. We all were proud to work at Magic Memories and take care of the company for Mr. Wikstrom.

Cons

It’s not like that anymore. Everyone is unhappy and leaving, some people leave only weeks after they start. Our manager is the main reason everyone is unhappy. Everyone from long time employees to people he personally hired all want to quit. He treats us like we are disposable and talks down to us. He does a lot of unethical things including making us come into work and not allowing us to clock in. He will instruct you to write people up and put your name on the write up, even if it was his idea and you don’t agree with it, because he doesn’t want to be seen as the bad guy. If there are openings at other sites don’t expect to get a transfer. Even if you have a valid reason for wanting the transfer, it will be denied for a made up reason. The real reason is no one can transfer because my manager can’t keep a team and he can’t afford to lose people. It’s ironic because most people are looking for another job, so he will lose us all anyway.

Cons

Where to start? I was an employee with the company they bought (Sharp Shooter Imaging) once MM took over everything went to crap. They run their venues with least amount of staff possible and push the work load off on the rest of the employees. They say you get commission on the sales you make for the day but you do not get those until you hit a goal that corporate sets, which is usually high so that you do not usually get it. If you are at a busy venue the pay (between 9-10/hr) is not worth the stress. If you get offered a supervisors position do not take it. The pay raise is only, at most, a dollar and the added stress and responsibility is NOT worth that dollar. The manger I had expected you to be avilable to come in and help even on your day off and got mad if you did not. Once she decided you were no longer worth the effort you might as well turn in your notice. The work/life balance is CRAP.

Apologies for the experience - it certainly does sound horrible from your POV. It has been challenging to change from one culture to another. Some have grabbed it and continue to soar, others have not done so well and many moved on. Things are settling in really well now - I am delighted to see 'the magic' is appearing all over the country in collaboration, ownership accountability and fun. John Wikstrom - Founder

Pros

There are NO pros that I can name working for this company, other than the fact that it connects you with like-minded people who are not making this company their last stop.

Cons

It's messy. It's disorganized. Nepotism runs amok in this place. The pay rate sucks and they're actually about to LOWER the pay. This company purchased the company I was working for last year and it's been going downhill ever since. I'm going to stop now because I could write a book about my dissatisfaction with this company.
