Pros

Positive atmosphere at work and awesomely stocked kitchen

Cons

Since I've been here (not even a year yet), there has been 2 rounds of layoffs. 2! That's insane. There is clearly something internally wrong that needs to be fixed. Management cares about the bottom line (and I don't blame them, it's a business after all) and how the company pans out at the end of the year. They say they care about the people, but why did you have to do 2 rounds within 4 months? It's a ghost town here and I'm scared for Round 3, and I know there will be. Another con is the the laid back attitude. It appears laid back but the expectations are great. I'm not stranger to work but beware, you will be working all hours of the day and you can never really have vacation. You will never be satisfied with the work that you do because others won't either.

Pros

- Unlimited Vacation & PTO (Just trying to reach the '5 word' minimum)

Cons

There's a lot of negatives with the company unfortunately: - attrition of great talented people - layoffs that occurred - leadership (or lack of) - some members of the sales team not meeting their targets yet they're still around - the marketing team - COO

Pros

Laid off a lot of people, without notice and surprised almost everyone (transparency isn't good enough after the case) There used to be so many pros until recently and now it just looks like a bunch of really bad decision making going on and the good people are leaving or have been asked to leave while the boys club at the top pretend to be everybody's friend but they are far from that.

Cons

we need leadership and smart execs, not friends or people who bring everyone down or no one understands why they are still here. keep wondering where is the boy to call out that the emperor isn't wearing any clothes or that our strategy and vision is being led by someone totaly not qualified but walks around like the second coming. why is there hiring going on when so many people just lost their jobs? makes zero sense. the entire HR team was asked to leave so writing is on the wall. you have this idea for general manager for our office but you clearly have no idea how he barely shows up there as it is, doesn't know what i've seen others in that role do at other companies, yet reward him. what?!? don't fall for the kool aid, there is a big lack of trust by the people in the leadership, mainly because of their decisions and how they lead. no one is buying it anymore. product doesn't even exist (we're just providing a service) and now we're talking 2018 for a platform??? yet that person is still here and making decisions across the whole company.

To the reader of the above review for clarification and context: Last week Magnetic let go 22 people out of 280. Included in this were three people in our People Operations (HR) department (not the whole team). In addition to People Operations we reorganized a few other departments including centralized accounting in Ann Arbor and leveraging our ad operations expertise in Chicago. These actions were taken to ensure we keep a flat structure, are profitable and in control of our own destiny. We are still investing in product, technology and sales which is why we are still hiring in these departments despite reductions elsewhere. Sandeep (our COO) and I held a Town Hall where we answered all questions. We then visited all our offices in order to answer more specific questions in smaller forums. These decisions are never easy or taken lightly and sometimes they cause offense as is clearly the case here. And of course no one is ever perfect. To the author of the above review: I'm sorry you are upset and frustrated by our decisions. Should you wish to meet with me or any member of the team to discuss how to make your life at Magnetic better or more understandable, or if you have product or strategy advice, we are still a small enough company that we can make that happen.
